BriMove: Destination Los Angeles

We are officially less than a week from the Departure Window - an eleven day span from January 21st to the 31st - the window that I will be beginning this crazy journey to Los Angeles. There’s no set exact date because, so far, everything about this trip has been dictated by “what feels right,” so as soon as it does, I’ll put the keys in the ignition and off I go.
Knowing that I’m now less than a week away from the earliest date within the window scares me! This is no longer a thing “in the future.” I’ve put this move off for years, but there’s no turning back now!

In the mid-19th century, the idea of "manifest destiny" was a popular belief to justify expanding the United States to the Pacific Coast.

Now, after a century and a half later, it's my turn.

My name is Brian Carroll and I'm moving to Southern California. I'm an independent filmmaker, designer, and illustrator who's been making a go at it up and down the East Coast for as long as I've been alive. I've decided it's finally time to take my work out West.

Such a big move would be memorable in itself, but I wanted to give myself a challenge.

Combining illustration and filmmaking, I'll be attempting the drive to California using only money I make along the way. Setting up my desk and drawing caricatures for gas, food, and board. And I'll be videotaping the entire journey.

Sure, it could take me weeks to get out there, I could end up sleeping in my car a lot, and a whole host of other unforeseen pitfalls, but I'm single and in my twenties, so why not?

This site will be used to document the trip "from sea to shining sea." So please, stop by early! Stop by often! Things may not always go smoothly, but they should always be interesting!

See you in California! (Hopefully!)
